I suspect in my case I was getting the "we've detected you're using a misconfigured third party app" not from my Thunderbird but rather from my android phone where I'm using android Aquamail to see that AOL mail account. In that above url at the bottom there's a IMAP and POP page each and those are updated and date stamped to Sept 2021 so I think that covers that security change. Maybe this has the instructions for thunderbird setup for their new security policies: I currently just get spam and very old straggler mails on verizon, i log into to the aol web mail by browser occasionally to dump the spam folder and check for good ones to forward to fastmail and notify of my new address. I had to tell everyone to move my address and so on.

I don't think I've retained any of their mails about how to do (#2), I simply gave up on AOL mail long ago (since it sucks) and went to fastmail (costs some money but it's not full of spam and ads like AOL).
You didn't see all the "we are changing our security policies" AOL emails? AOL was sending those out for quite a while now.īasically saying "change your email apps by X date or you won't be able to use mail"ġ) drop the 'third party' mailers as they call them and use the AOL web portal for email ()Ģ) go into your thunderbird and modify the login prefs to match their changes I did see on the AOL contact page ( ) that others have been complaining about their POP3 servers, but I've seen no solution offered.
I'm able to use the browser to access the accounts fine, so I suspect the problem is on their (the provider's) end. I've made sure that the configuration was OK - I hadn't changed it, and when one account was working I made sure that the configuration for the others were the same. Today, the 3rd and last Verizon account cannot be accessed via Thunderbird or any email client I've tried (kmail and evolution). Sometime late in December, I lost access via Thunderbird to the second in the same way. Sometime late last year (November?) I was unable to log into one of them using Thunderbird, but was able to access the account from Facebook using the web-site (thus verifying the login password). I have had 3 Verizon e-mail accounts since before they switched to AOL decades ago.
